ASTM is the abbreviation of American Society for Testing and Materials. Founded in 1898, ASTM is one of the American oldest and largest nonprofit standard academic communities, predating other standards organizations such as DIN (1917), ANSI (1918) and AFNOR (1926). After a century of development, there are 33,669 (individual and group) members, of whom there are 22,396 main committee members holding the post of technical experts in their committees. ASTM technical committee totally has 2004 technical sub-committees. There are 105,817 units participated in the development work of ASTM standards. As an international standards organization, it develops and publishes many technical standards for a wide range of materials, products, systems and services. ASTM supports thousands of volunteer technical committees, which draw their members from around the world and collectively develop and maintain more than 12,000 ASTM standards.
