If you will need EN 10219 pipes for structural hollow section application, then you should need S355joh pipe or S355j2h pipes. Here we compare the two steel grade in EN 10219 Specification.

From the above chart, we can see that:

  • The yield strengh and tensile strength are all the same for S355J2H pipes and S355joh pipe. The only difference is the min. impact energy: S355joh pipe requires min. impact absorbed energy 27J at 0 degree, while S355j2h pipes requires same 27J at -20 degree.

From the above table, we can see the chemical composition is almost the same, there is only P, S and Nb elements are a little different for S355j2h pipes and EN 10219 S355joh pipe.

The Equivalent of those two EN 10219 steel grade is the same. There is no worry about the carbon equivalent for the different steel grade welded pipes or seamless pipes.

Except the above main things, the rest is almost the same. Like the EN 10219 structural pipe manufacturing process, S355JOH pipe and S355J2H pipes tolerance of mass, thickness, diameter, test requirements and frequency etc. You can purchase those structural hollow section as per the above tables and the most important factor is the impact test and the test temperature
